    The one about the Modchip?

    OK a few things today...

Well first we all know about the original Xbox and how easy it waws to hack. Well with the 360 hackers have been having a have time trying to make a true mod chip. Well Xbox-scene.com recieved and email which said-

"The Devil360 will be a modchip for the Xbox 360 console, the ’small’ security hole     has been found! This device is in no way related to the DVD firmware exploits - it’s     a totally different approach.

However we did not manage to get the product ready for today (6/6/6), because we are working hard on improving it to:
    * Try to protect it from any type of update
    * Make it programmable via PC
    * Boot unsigned code
    * Allow to swap HD with larger drive with a special interface between the 360 and the HD (all types IDE/SATA).
    * And more…"

So all we can do is hope this is a hoax.

Next, I have really been looking forward to the upcoming game called "Saint's Row" I found this interview of with the lead designer at Volition, Chris Stockman. Here is that interview.-

"FiringSquad: First, how did the idea for Saint’s Row come about?

Chris Stockman: About 3 1/2 years a go Volition was between projects so they commissioned multiple groups of employees (made up of all disciplines) to come up with ideas for future games. Saints Row was born out of those meetings. Little known fact: SR’s original name was Bling Bling.

FiringSquad: We have seen open ended crime action games before. How hard was it to develop a game that was different than those that came before?

Chris Stockman: It’s hard to deny the affect that the GTA series has had on our industry. We don’t shy away from the fact that Saints Row shares elements with them. But it is possible to improve upon some of the complaints the GTA series has received over the years. Stuff like targeting systems, no multiplayer, too linear of a story, lack of player creation, etc. We identified these key areas and focused on improving them.

FiringSquad: What can you tell us about the storyline for the game?

Chris Stockman: We actually have 4 separate stories in the game. 3 of them focus on the enemy gangs that control the city, they are Westside Rollerz, Vice Kings, and Los Carnales. The last one, which focuses on the player’s gang the 3rd Street Saints, is split up into two parts, the Prologue and Epilogue.

While each story is linear you can weave in and out of them at your whim. You can start taking over Los Carnales and move to the Westside Rollerz in the middle of that story. You can do as little or as much of each story as you want. We leave it up to the player to make those types of decisions. In the end the objective is to take over the city so the player has to complete the stories in order to beat the game.

FiringSquad: How “big” is the world of Saint’s Row compared to other similar games?

Chris Stockman: We didn’t set out to beat any particular game’s city size. Our objective wasn’t to add a bullet point to the back of the box but was instead to create a city that fit the game’s needs. In the end, it looks like we have a city that is bigger then Vice City but smaller than San Andreas.

FiringSquad: How interactive is the game world in terms of interacting with the people and the environments?

Chris Stockman: We have a lot of in-game objects that take advantage of Havok 3.x. Our peds use ragdoll physics and our cars have realtime deformation. While buildings aren’t destrucible we do have tons of objects in the world that can be destroyed (for example, the gas station pumps can be blown up).

FiringSquad: What sorts of weapons and vehicles are available for use in the game?

Chris Stockman: We have over 20 weapons including shotguns, pistols, SMGs, grenades, pipe bombs, molotov cocktails, baseball bats, nightsticks, tire irons, and everyone’s favorite the Rocket Launcher.

We have over 80 different types of vehicles including basic sedans, trucks, SUVs, semis, construction vehicles, garbage trucks, hummers, limos, etc. .

FiringSquad: What other unique gameplay options does the game have?

Chris Stockman: Player can store food items in his inventory and use them to regain health in the middle of a battle. We have a fully functioning cell phone in the game where you can call people to come help you or you can call virtually every phone number listed in the game and find hidden secrets. I have to mention our radio system which features 12 stations and over 130+ licensed tracks. Commercials on the radio will chime in announcing, for a limited time, a store sale in progress. If the player visits that store during the sale he’ll actually receive the discount. We’ll also have downloadable content including new multiplayer levels, clothing packs, vehicle packs, etc.

FiringSquad: Most open ended crime action games don’t have multiplayer. What multiplayer features will Saint’s Row have?

Chris Stockman: SR has 6 different multiplayer modes supporting 2 - 12 players, including:

Protect the Pimp - two teams of up to 6 players each. One team has to protect and escort the pimp as he finds the exit point. The other team must kill the pimp.

Blinged Out Ride - two teams of up to 6 players each. Each team has a car they must bling up to it’s max level. To bling it up they must earn money from killing rival players or picking up a chain and dropping it off. The first team to successfully deliver a fully blinged out car wins the match.

Big A$$ Chains - This mode supports team and free-for-all play, players kill other players and pickup the chains that they drop. They must then take these chains to a pawn shop for points. Whoever gets the most points wins.

FiringSquad: How does the game take advantage of the Xbox 360 hardware for its graphics and features?

Chris Stockman: We stream everything off the disc including building interiors and the city itself. We have weather, a full day/night cycle, and real time shadows. We use all the shader bells and whistles and texturing techniques. We’re pushing the 360 pretty hard.

FiringSquad: Can you give us some ideas of any Xbox 360 achievements that will be available in the game?

Chris Stockman: Our achievements span both SP and MP. Some achievements are earned as you conquer the city while others are more for the completionists (like completing all 24 levels of an activity).

FiringSquad: What is the current status of the game’s progress and when will it be released?

Chris Stockman: We’re in the home stretch and are in the balancing and bugfixing stage. Everyone on the team is burning the midnight oil trying to make SR a marquee title for the 360. Look for it in stores this fall.

FiringSquad: Finally is there anything else you wish to say about Saint’s Row?

Chris Stockman: SR has been massive undertaking for Volition and THQ. We other a lengthy singleplayer plus a multiplayer experience that offers near infinite replayability. We’ve created an open-world game that we feel is truly next-gen."

Look for Saint's Row on Augest 29. I know i can't wait for it.

Well that is it for now... Time to find something to tell you all about tomorrow.
